Women's Hockey (CIS Ranking: No. 9) - Winners of six consecutive Canada West games and 10 of their last 11, the Cougars (12-4-0) went into the December break as one of the hottest teams in the nation and broke into the CIS Top Ten for the first time this season in the final poll of the first half of the schedule. The Cougars will look to stay hot this weekend as they'll travel to Lethbridge to square off with the Pronghorns on Friday and Saturday.
Wrestling (Men's CIS Ranking: No. 4 / Women's CIS Ranking: No. 4) - The U of R's wrestling teams open the second half of the schedule this Saturday in Edmonton, where the two No. 4-ranked grappling squads will participate in the Golden Bear Open. After this weekend's meet in Edmonton, the Cougars will prepare to host the Cougar Open on Jan. 12 at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Women's Volleyball - The Cougars travel to Edmonton this weekend to participate in the three-day New Year's Classic, a six-team non-conference tournament hosted by the University of Alberta. The Cougars will play Alberta and the National Institute of Fitness and Sport (Kanoya, Japan) on Friday, Calgary and Mount Royal on Saturday, and Saskatchewan on Sunday. The Cougars return to the Canada West schedule on Jan. 12 and Jan. 13 with a pair of afternoon matches against UBC Okanagan at the CKHS.
Men's Basketball - The Cougars get back to action this Saturday, when they'll make the short trip across the line to pay a visit to Williston State College. The U of R goes into the game with a 5-14 overall record and is 3-7 in Canada West games, while the Tetons have compiled an 11-6 record this season. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Cougars return to Canada West play on Jan. 11 (UNBC) and Jan. 12 (Mount Royal) at the CKHS.
Women's Basketball (CIS Ranking: No. 3) - The Cougars had a fine showing at the Las Vegas Shootout over the weekend, winning all three of their games at the non-conference tournament. All three opponents were from the Frontier Conference (NAIA Div. I), as the Cougars defeated Montana Tech 50-47 on Thursday, Carroll College by a 60-48 score on Friday, and Montana Western on Saturday by a 65-47 count. The U of R is back at home on Jan. 11 against UNBC and on Jan. 12 against Mount Royal.
