THE MONDAY MORNING GOALIE

Have you ever been to Mexico?  If not, pack your bags because you're coming with us today on the Monday Morning Goalie!  We're down in Playa del Carmen with the Harvard Broadcasting annual sales trip and here's what we've been up to so far....

Getting ready for departure at our gate at the Regina Airport on Saturday.  Here you see Rider Radio analyst Carm Carteri and Rider great Scott Schultz.   I overheard someone say "Is this a Rider trip?".  It's close, but not quite.  However former Rider employees Tony Playter and Trent Fraser are along on the voyage as well...

Landing in Cancun, Mexico.  No snow....

Welcome to Cancun.  Hurry up and wait.  Four planes landed at one time...

As soon as you arrive, it's chaos.  Here's a small group of shuttle and taxi drivers looking for their fares...

Thirsty?  You can buy beers just outside the airport for $6 each.....

Travelling in style.  The Harvard Broadcasting bus was waiting...

Beers on the bus go for $3 each.  That will be an addition to the Marlin Travel Sports Cage Ultimate Sports Trip III this year.  It's been an oversight in the past....

Each bus has a tour guide laying out the plans....

Perhaps the largest Corona in the world...

Yes, this is legal down here.  Actually, pretty much anything is...

Our oasis awaits.  The Playacar Palace...

Of all our trips, this is the most high-end at which we've stayed.  You don't see a lot of resorts with lounges like this!

The view from our balcony...

Again, the setting is amazing....

A friendly game of beach volleyball...

The always-popular swim-up bar....

Our resort is situated right in the city of Playa del Carmen so we hit the streets for a stroll...

We Walk Among You.  I asked this gentleman if he's a Roughrider fan.  His response was "They're the best brother!"  I concur.

At night, the lights come on....

The Japanese supper always comes with a show.  Here Darnell dazzles the prairie folk...

And of course, the popular Mexican Fire Show.   Don't sit too close!  You can get doused with kerosene.....

That's all for now, and we've only been here for 24 hours!  Monday is the annual Harvard golf tournament and at some point this week Schultzie and I plan on taking in the bullfights.  That will be a first for me....

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Try to keep your spirits up Rod. As Gene Simons would say, you're one of the hardest (working) men in radio, and with all that warm sun, beach, booze, and pretty things to look at, it's like they're TRYING to take the hustle right out of you. They're trying to take your edge away.

Probably some sort of conspiracy cooked up by the Rawlco guys so they can move in while you're gone – and when you're back, you'll be so soft and malleable that the only thing you'll be able to outpace 'em at, is afternoon siestas.

My recommendation is that you DON'T enjoy yourself. Eat a lot of lettuce. Drink water out of the tap. Engage Scott Schultz on metaphysical matters of philosophical discourse. Keep your edge.

Take care of yourself my friend.

Rod - i 'd recommend Xel Ha and Excaret for day tours. The Excaret night show is impressive as well.

A word of caution, Rod: bullfights are brutal. Went out of curiousity in Puerto Vallerta and really wish I hadn't. Its pretty tough to watch animal after animal get slaughtered, slow and painfully - it never really had a chance to begin with. Not the best entertainment, I promise you. I suggest skipping it and doing anything else instead. Other than tourists satisfying curiousity, I can't imagine anyone enjoying it.

Have a great week.
