ICE 2 PATS 1

REGINA - Jaedon Descheneau scored both goals for his club as the Kootenay Ice downed the host Regina Pats 2-1 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Mackenzie Skapski stopped 29-of-30 shots for the Ice (20-25-1), who have won three games in a row.

Dyson Stevenson scored the lone goal for the Pats (18-25-4), who are winless in four outings, and Matt Hewitt made 24 saves in defeat.

Only one penalty was handed out all game and it was given to Regina's Colton Jobke at 19:32 of the third period for checking to the head.

The Pats host Swift Current Saturday at 7:00 pm on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35 pm).

The Pats are faltering and are quickly putting themselves out of the hunt. They have no points in their last four games and now have to jump two teams to have any hope at a playoff spot. They are five points out and the teams ahead have games in hand. Unlike Kootenay who have beat all comers, the Pats have faltered against good and bad teams. Kootenay has beat Edmonton, Calgary, PA, Red Deer and Saskatoon during their run, which was more than five games.

Last night Hewitt was out of position on the first goal and gave up a cheapie between the wickets on the second. As a 20 year old he has to be better. We lost a lot of battles in the offensive zone. We weren't the better team. We made their tender look good with a lot of outside shots.

The talent is mediocre and no amount coaching will help. The overall compete level isn't good enough night in and night out. It clearly looks like we are back to the outside looking in. This is unacceptable any way you look at it.

Pats season is slowing slipping away. Another couple of heartfelt losses and the team will fold. On well, better luck next year hopefully.

The Pats season was over before it even began just like every other year.

Sheesh!...sounds like we got killed last night...when we really lost 2-1 in a good hockey game...fast skating and clean hitting...Ice tender was very good...give him credit Anon 1...or maybe you folks weren't even at the game? Where you you guys when we had the 5 game winning streak a while back?...beating some of the leaders in the division/conference. Pats deserved better last night...let's get the Bronc's tonight guys!

The Pats out played the Ice in every aspect of the game last nite just couldnt solve Skapski... he was the story of the game.

The refs were horrid on both sides missed calls both ways all game long. Im all for letting teams play 5on5 but last nite was pretty sickening when guys are getting hauled down (on both sides) & no calls are being made.

2 terrible defensive plays lead to both of the Ice's goals 1 by Fenske on a brutal pinch at the red line & took out our own player instead of the guy with the puck.
