HITMEN 6 PATS 1

REGINA -- The Regina Pats' first game after the WHL's trade deadline didn't go the way they'd hoped. Calgary's Brooks Macek scored just 13 seconds into Friday night's contest in the Brandt Centre and the Hitmen weren't challenged much the rest of the way as they recorded their 30th win of the season.

A pair of goals from the Hitmen's Brady Brassart put Calgary up 3-0 after 20 minutes and that was the end of the line for starting Pats goalie Teagan Sacher. He allowed three goals on 15 shots. Matt Hewitt was in net for the start of the second period and Regina's Morgan Klimchuk got Regina on the board with his 23rd goal of the season but it was all the offence the home team could muster.

Jake Virtanen gave Calgary a 4-1 lead after two periods and he added one more in the final frame. Brendan Hurley rounded out the Hitmen scoring in a 6-1 final. It was Regina's second-straight loss dropping their record to 18-23-4 and they remain one point out of a playoff spot.

NOTES: Regina outshot Calgary 33-32 ... The Pats went 1/6 on the powerplay and 4/5 killing penalties ... The attendance was 4317 ... Hewitt stopped 14 of 17 shots while Calgary's Chris Driedger got the win making 32 saves ... Colten Mayor, who the Pats dealt to Calgary on Thursday's deadline, chipped in with one assist for his new club ... Regina visits Brandon Saturday night at 7:30 pm on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 7:05 pm).

I swear the Pats and the Riders are the most inconsistant teams in Canada. Can anyone answer why this might be? Cmon all you sports minds..why???

The hitmen are one of the top teams in the chl... did you actually think pats would win?

The Hitmen organization is run very well. Three years ago they win a WHL championship, then the next year they finish last. But they rebuild and now are in contention to win the league again in a two year turn around. They are doing something right and be considered a model franchise. Wish the Pats could find that formula. Been a long drought since 1980 with a league championship and haven't been in the dance since 1984.

You has better go in thinking your going to win. The last three ganes against Calgary outscored 12-3. Last two PA and Calgary 15-5. PA had their players back but Calgary didn't have Victor Rask back, their best player. At least try to play some defense and try to show you belong on the same ice surface as these elite teams. After all if the Pats were to fluke or back into he Playoffs they will probably play Calgary. They have reverted to pre Christmas play.

Don't blame this on injuies, or the flue or line changes. When two of your 1st line forwards are -3 and -4 and one of your top d-men is -3 you know your in trouble. It means your best players wont play defense or be your best players.

After the last two lickings the 5 game win streak means nothing. It only meant we got into striking distance. Kootenay did us a favour last night but we did nothing with it. Kootenay is one of the hotest teams in the league right now and we get to play them next week. With the addition of Walters Brandon might have the best d-corp in the league. Swift beat PA last night. So who is it were going to beat? Nothing will be easy. They either get serious about this or punch their ticket to the Bantam lottery. Maybe the time for some fire and brimstone.

..poster #3 you are so right. Calgary and Brandon may be out of the dance for a year. We are out for a decade. Brandon is setting up to be great next year. Calgary always is. Kelowna, Vancouver, Tri-Cities, Portland, Spokane are never down for long. We need to find that formula. This perpetual mediocrity is so old!

its how we play we dont play a skilled game we limit even our skilled players to a boring chip & chase, how is a player suppose to up his skill level when its chip & chase get behind the Dman... there is no green light to play the game by creating plays.... every top team out there uses the whole ice surface on a breakout the pats are limited to 1 side & chip it off the glass & go chase it more.

u dont develop players by playing this style, they dont get better every player on the roster is capable of playing a higher skill level then they are playing now, they all scored in bantam to get to this stage but now the coaching staff limits how they play cuz Conacher was nothing more then a checker in his NHL career so lets develop every player on the Pats as a checker as well... i feel sorry for klimchuk he has alot of untapped skill that we will never see cuz of how he is coached to play

You may not be far off last poster. I am beginning to have my doubts. If you are going to play defense then you have to have a buy in from everyone. Much of this team does not appear to want to buy in to this system. Something has to change. They have to buy into this coach or get a coach the kids will buy in to.

These are teens, they are also very inconsistent.

Calgary was just a joy to watch! They are fast, physical, strong, good goaltending, good mix of scorers and physical players and well coached! They are the best team in the conference for a reason! Colton Mayor looked pretty good last night as well!!
