THUNDER HIRE MACAULAY

The Regina Thunder Football Club would like to announce the hiring of Scott MacAulay as Head Coach.

Well known throughout the football community in Regina and throughout the province, Coach MacAulay has held the position of Special Teams Coordinator and Linebackers Coach with the Regina Thunder for the last three years. He has also held several other coaching positions over the last decade, including Defensive Coordinator of Team Saskatchewan for three seasons including the 2009 and 2010 National Championship teams.

As a player, MacAulay played for the Regina Rams, having won National Championships in 1997 and 1998. He then played for Danube Hammers in the German Division III League before returning to the Regina Thunder as a captain for our inaugural 2000 season. He is the first alumni of the Regina Thunder to take over as Head Coach.

"We are very excited to have Coach MacAulay lead this team", says Brin Werrett, President of the Regina Thunder. "Scott is a very organized and driven individual with a strong football background as both a player and coach. It won't take long for him to make an impact on this team."

MacAulay fills a vacancy left by the retirement of long time Head Coach Erwin Klempner after the team's loss to the Saskatoon Hilltops in the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) Final.

"Scott has some big shoes to fill. Coach Klempner has done a lot to bring us where we are today," says Werrett. "However, we believe he's the one who can take us to the next level and finally bring a National Championship back to Regina."

The Regina Thunder have begun their off season recruiting and workouts. Spring camp will take place in early May with the 2013 season starting in early August.
