THE NEWS RELEASE

Hamilton - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that George Cortez has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach and Director of Football Operations.

"After a thorough evaluation of our organization and our goals moving forward, we have determined that a change in direction is needed," said President Scott Mitchell.  "We want to thank Coach Cortez for his contributions to the Tiger-Cats and wish him well in his future endeavours.  We will immediately begin the search for our new General Manager and Head Coach."

The Ticats also announced that as part of their longstanding agreement with Bob O'Billovich, he has been offered a position within the organization as a consultant to the President and the Football Operations staff.

"Bob has done a very good job of bringing competitive football back to Hamilton and we look forward to working with him for many years to come," said Mitchell.

Here we go again with several weeks of Austin speculation - and he will no doubt hire Lapo to be his OC and Etch to be his DC....sigh....it would be more attractive for him though than the offer we made him last year to be HC only - he would get both jobs and have OB as a mentor/consultant. I can actually see it happening. The timing of this firing suggests that perhaps they have already talked to Kent. I hope Kent either takes it or doesn't in a hurry rather than dragging it on forever like he did last year. Hey maybe Kent would hire Tillman to be his lead scout?? It all comes together...I actually hope it happens then we can put to bed once and for all the speculation of him coming back here and when he falls on his face the mystique of his one year as a HC will come to an end finally.

And do you think it is just coincidence that Austin showed up at the grey cup this year for the first time ever? And that OB decides to vacate the GM job? They likely talked to Kent at the Cup.....

I wonder how a certain free-agent slotback that signed with Hamilton last year because he felt they were close to being Grey Cup contenders, feels now? Well at least he gets to play all his home games in Hamilton, close to his family....wait, he doesn't?

And for those Rider fans dreaming of a Tillman/Cortez as GM-HC combo, how do you feel now? I guess the good news is, they're both available now...
