MAC RETIRES

After discussions between the Weyburn Red Wings and Dwight McMillan, the Weyburn Red Wings regretfully accepted his decision to retire. The Weyburn Red Wings would like to thank Dwight for his many years of service and dedication to the Wings and wish him all the best in any future endeavors he may pursue. This will be effective immediately.

When I think of Dwight McMillan I think of an on the edge personality much like a rattle snake. very intense person who seems like hes always ready to strike. Hios battles behind the bench with opposing teams and their fans will become that of legends.
I think his frustration level was getting the better of him. Just like the rest of us fellows getting older. There just isnt any room for stupidity and it becomes too easy to fly off the handle and lose it.

Ditto,, Best Junior Hockey Coach Ever.

His frustration level never factored in. 70 years old, and been a Lifer it's simply time to go do something else. The game never passed him by, he adjusted, he always had young Assistants, and Dwight and the GM knew how to bring the right guys into the program. It was consistency. The best thing was when he resigned because a Board Member pushed a kid on him. He quit because he didn't need the job. That's the best position to be in when you are coaching.

who replaces Mac now? Assistants or hire someone?

Mac might even stay as an Assistant Coach. I think this will be a very desirable job in Junior Hockey. I could see Dean Brockman coming back, but if they stay local Mike Rooney should get a shot as either Head Coach or get picked as an Assistant Coach.

This had been dwight's last year anyway. Don't you find it odd that he would leave midway through his last year after the career he's had?

This has something, not saying what, to do with his business life outside of hockey, NOT anything to do with hockey.

Too bad for a very iconic coach.

Dwight is certainly one of the best all-time. The release makes me wonder if the Wings pushed him out the door though as it sure doesn't salute him for what he has done. Dwight is Weyburn and the Wings wouldn't be what they are if it weren't for him.

Gotta think that Ronnie is packing up his horse and getting ready to join Dwight. Those two gentlemen would be HHOF candidates in my mind. Dwight for sure!

Mac will not be an assistant as him leaving had partly to do with his wife's health amongst other issues.Ken Schneider and Kelly Klippenstein are the ones being considered.Pindus will be head coach until a replacement is found and is being helped by Mark Schneider.Pin does not want to be full time head coach.

I love how some anoymous bozo comes on here and says Ken Schneider adn Kelly Klippenstein are the ones being considered. I really question if you "are in the know" or just make crap up because you heard it at coffee row?

As an X Season Ticket holder... it is long overdue!!!! Sit behind the WRW bench for 8 years... the full story is easily told!! Good luck to the next HC.. whoever that may be... and hopefully, Mac is not involved anywhere but as a fan~ Mike deserves a very close 'look'~

Weyburn is a bad team this year. There is nothing to look into this. It was Dwight's last year win or lose and bring a smart man he decided to abort the ship early. Maybe the boys on that team will get there head out of the sand because as everyone has witnessed over the years it's not easy to get Dwight out. Best of luck to Dwight in his life after the wings

The hammer Dwight always had was that similar to Brent Sutter the players knew full well he wasn't going anywhere. The option to tune him out wasn't there. This farewell tour wasn't a good idea becauuse these kids whom many play in spite of just packed it in on him. It's fitting he leave this way because now he can say he got fired just like anybody else, and along the way won everything there was to win.

I am old enough to remember Dwight as a player with the Wings when I was a kid. He is Mr. Weyburn Red Wing.

Good Luck and thanks for all the great hockey you have provided Weyburn and the SJHL.

Mac didn't retire early, He was fired. The board of the Red Wings lied & said he retired. How stupid is that, Did they think Mac would never be interviewed again..lol
Just read his thank you on the SJHL site. Class Act! Brought & gave so much to the Wings & City of Weyburn. He should be saluted!
