Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats have acquired 20-year old defenceman Alex Theriau (6'1, 190 lbs).

A fourth round NHL Draft pick of the Dallas Stars in 2010 (109th overall), Theriau was released earlier this season by the Medicine Hat Tigers after an injury delayed his start to the season.

Theriau is entering his fifth season in the WHL. He was selected in the 1st round (6th overall) in the 2007 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. During his five years in the league, Theriau spent time with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Everett Silvertips and Medicine Hat Tigers before coming to the Pats. In 251 career games, the Duncan, BC native has 9 goals and 53 assists and is a career plus 13.

“Alex is a big, strong, mobile defenceman who will add skill and experience to our back end,” says General Manager Chad Lang. “With the injury to our Captain, Colton Jobke, we needed to add a player with the attributes Alex brings with his game.”

Theriau will join the Pats in Vancouer in time for their five game road trip through B.C., starting Friday against the Giants in a game that can be heard on 620 CKRM or viewed on Sportsnet with the game slated for 9:00 p.m. CST.

So who is the odd man out here? Is Jobke hurt more then they thought? I cant see them getting rid Of Hewitt Jobke or Scheidl so what is the story here? Is he just here until Jobke is back?

I would have a difficult time believing that this young man would join the team for a mere 5 game road trip. We already have 3 20 yr olds in play and they are all pretty top notch. I would think Hewitt is a lock and the same for Scheidl. There may be some interest in Jobke although you don't often trade your captain. This will prove to be very interesting. I expect that there will be a significant trade pretty soon.

Sorry, what's Jobke's injury?

Jobke has trade value and Saskatoon need to get better for being the host maybe good time to make the trades to get back our future that was traded away when we hosted the games. Maybe if our last year star comes back we can move him too for good value.

And what is the situation on Oulette? That kid was a powerhouse out of the gate...and not one word about his injury since he went down. I sat next two central scouting scouts and heard them talking about Oulette, one of the many comments was, "strong all around, long career ahead of him,"

Oulette an Stephenson will return when healthy and that shouldn't be too long. Jobke could be a while me thinks. I think Theriau would have only come if it was going to be for the season. One of the other three will have to go. Jobke could be an asset to a contending team needing a rental d-man. The same would apply for Scheidl and Hewitt. If they are looking to next year then it is possible Hewitt could be marketable. He is now an elite goalie who wont be back next season. They may throw Sacher to the wolves knowing he will be returning for next season and would have more exposure under his belt. I expect a big trade from the Pats.
