WARRIORS 5 PATS 4 (2 OT)

REGINA -- Brayden Point scored at 6:14 of the second overtime period as the Moose Jaw Warriors downed the Regina Pats 5-4 Wednesday night in the Brandt Centre. With the victory, the Warriors assumed a 3-1 lead in this WHL East Conference Quarterfinal series.

The Warriors led 1-0 after one period and 3-2 after two but Regina held a 4-3 advantage late in the gane. Regina's goals came from Jordan Weal, Kyle Burroughs and Martin Marincin (2).

However a five minute major for clipping by the Pats' Dyson Stevenson allowed the Warriors to tie it and send the game to double overtime and that set the stage for Point's heroics. The Pats were livid with the call and they have a right to be. It used to be in this league you needed to be carried off on a stretcher before a five minute major was awarded in the playoffs. Now, you can get it for "clipping". I've now seen that call made twice in the past 20 years and the last time, 10 years ago, it was a two minute minor.

Here's the Wikipedia definition of clipping: "Clipping is a penalty in the sport of ice hockey. It is generally recognized as hitting an opposing player at or below the other player's knees. Clipping should not be confused with hip checking, where one player hits an opponent with his hips, although occasionally a hip check will result in a clipping call. A player is generally assessed a minor penalty for clipping, unless an injury is caused, in which case a major penalty and a misconduct or game misconduct will result. It is one of the least-called penalties in the sport. Additionally, Rule 639(a) of the USA Hockey Rulebook states: 'Any player who deliberately leaves his feet and contacts an opponent with any part of his body thereby causing the opponent to trip or fall shall be assessed a minor penalty (Clipping).(Note 3) This rule does not apply to a player who has dropped to his knee(s) to block a shot.'

The Pats now face elimination in Game 5 Friday night in Moose Jaw at 7:00 (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35 pm).

There had better be a suspension

I knew Rod was going to blame the refs for this this one. hahha classic

nah nah nah nah... nah nah nah nah... hey hey hey...GOODBYE! Can you spell over? I can! O-V-E-R! and im from Moose Jaw even!

If the clip was such a brutal miscall put up a video of the play. Very doubtful that two veteran referees made up a major in a close game.

Anonymous said...

The refs didn't beat you... But a 15 year old did

Typical Pats fans blaming the refs when it doesnt go the Pats way. What a bunch of whiners Pats fans are.Suck it up you guys stink!!

Anonymous said...

I'll be the first MJW fan to give the Pats credit here they really laid it all out there tonight... Their team had a number of guys stepping up. Hewitt (all series), davidson, marincin, scheidl, volek, weal. Going into OT i thought they were going to pull out the win.

But we got the win. All our lines have been scoring so far this series. What a series for Point. Gets the game winner last night, then assist on the tying goal tonight, and finally the ot winner! Go Warriors.

Anonymous said...

Worst officiating i ever seen the warriors didn't even get half the penalties the pats did. The one during the end of the third was the worst. Shouldn't of been a goal either

Anonymous said...

What was with Beach tonight? Did he forget to take his skate guards off before the game? All he did was fall down. He better hope he doesn't get suspended again because he may want to play as much as he can in the WHL because he won't be going to the next level....brutal!!

Tanner Eberle probably wishes his name was Jordan because he is absolutely useless out there. He just skakes aroud chirping at everybody. The coaches know how bad he is too because he didn't play one shift in the over time. Instead they opted for a 15 year old....Go play adult safe hockey Tanner....Loser

Moose Jaw is a good team but I think Medicine Hat might own them in the next series with their speed.

Good effort tonight Pats!!

suck it up buttercup!! Can't blame the refs for being down 3 games to 1. The Pats got beat by a better team plain and simple. If you want to win you have to be the best team on the ice, and right now the Pats haven't iced the better team for 60 minutes in any of the games, they were lucky to win game 1!!

Why doesn't this barn have a jumbotron/clock hanging from the rafters? Or are they actually playing in a barn?

The Pats are lucky there is even a game 5. They are a below avg team that is not in same league as mj. Hopefully they lose next game then it's 100% Riders on here!

would you like some cheese with that whine Rod & the Pats fans?

Squeek obviously knows nothing about hockey. But its alright, he can yap now, but when the Tigers bend the warriors over in rd 2 I'm sure we won't hear anything from him/her/it?

Anonymous said...

Full marks to the Warriors. They have depth for sure. The Braes line is small, but tenacious, and out worked our (larger) defensemen time and again. If not for Hewitt tonight it wouldn't have been close. Young Point is living a dream isn't he...good for him. Some selfish penalties... by Martell to start the game with a 4 minute CFB penalty and Dyson in the 3rd period for "clipping"...why put yourself in those positions when unnecessary and such an important game!! We could have really used you, Dyson, in the OT but you were showering. Going to be tough to win the next one, much less 3 in a row, but as the Pats have shown the last 2 games, they are not ready to give up. Hope you have something in the tank for Friday...give it your best...will be cheerin' for ya!

Moose Jaw fans getting their shots in while they can this year and well deserved. Good team for sure.

Pats will be back and are on the rise. You will see reverasal in fortunes Pats fans. Mark my words. I wonder how Moose Jaw will do next season after all the dealing they did this year and probably all for not. Oil Kings are the team to beat this year. Their defence, goaltending, offence, special teams are something else. I would be surprised if they don't come out of the East.

kingsblood said...

How all these moose jaw fans were able to beat me home from the game I dont know.. I guess you all live in Regina. and if you watch the game online you dont see everything. Anyways... I have no problem losing to MJ, lets face it they are the better team. But this is the first game I have seen where the refs got booed on and off the ice and the warriors did not. MJ must be the most skilled team in the league not to get ANY penalties for periods 2,3,ot1,ot2.. Regina had 5 straight infractions from the 2nd onwards. At least in game 3 the pats were beat by the warriors not by the refs. No infractions in OT.. would have been nice to watch the entire game like that. 3 for 8 on the power play with 1 double minor and 1 major in there. What comes around goes around..MJ will get a taste of this in a later series.

Anonymous said...

Warriors were the better team AGAIN, so let's not blame a referee or make excuses. I am very disappointed in RP as he just refuses to give MJ the respect they deserve. It's too bad. It is 3-1, which it is about what it should be. THANK YOU to the kids on both teams for giving us a game we'll never forget.

Anonymous said...

Great game by both teams. MJ just has another gear Pats don't have. Best game we have played. Warriors have a nice club to watch.

Anonymous said...

So the Pats had an entire OT to win, didn't, but it's 100% the refs fault

Anonymous said...

Please Please Please let's not tarnish such a wonderful hockey game by blaming an official. Enough already. Congrats to both teams. Amazing hockey! -David

Does the moron above who insulted Tanner Eberle have a clue wtf he is watching? If a fan for either side can't see this 17 year old kid out there working his tail off he must be blind. Hope Pats have a 15 year old that can compete with Point. WOW

Hey! Dont be surprised if Brandon dont give Edmonton a run for there money! Lota of parody in this division!

lol for the warriors to play the tigers means they knocked the pats sorry ass out. Im geussing we wont hear anything from you after friday.

Anonymous said...

Moose Jaw is up 3-1 and they deserve to be. The classy Warriors fan (and there were many at the game tonite) acknowledge they were given a gift with the "clipping" major. The others are just blinded and would be incensed if it was their dear sweet little Beachy boy who did it.

Its a shame that a game played that well and that had so much emotion to it is ruined by what might be the dumbest call I have ever seen in a hockey game. The league should look at video of that and ask some serious questions to Wieler and Mortson.

Matt said...

Moose Jaw fans looking through ROSE COLOURED glasses to not see how bad the officiating was in this game. There are games where fans blame the officiating, and it's bogus. And there this is this one. WHL should watch the tape closely

Anonymous said...

To complain about a certain call or a few calls is on one thing, but this whole idea that the Pats got screwed because they had more penalites called than the Warriors is a joke. Sometimes 1 team can be more at fault than the other. this idea that if both teams don't have the same amount of pp opportunites someone got screwed just doesn't make any sense.

Anonymous said...

Davidson took a dirty slash in the first overtime (not called by a couple of shitty officials) He didn't play in the 2nd OT and now he may not be able to play in game 5. The picks MJ runs was disturbing. This game was snatched from the actual winning team by a couple of idiots. On a play where nobody is hurt calling a 5 min penalty shows a high degree of retardation. Something required to be a WHL official!

Anonymous said...

Why wait a few years Rod. If it has to be said, say it now!

Anonymous said...

As a warriors fan we've taking it all series by Rod and his gang. I thought Regina was gonna pull it out tonight. But lil did we know 15 yr old Point would score it. I had weak picked as a warrior fan you guys beat us at our own game. Marincin was huge tuning it up and scoring the go ahead goal. But as far as complaing about the reffing it was even tonight and all series. There's lots of call that have been missed on both sides. This series is far from over.

Anonymous said...

Wow so many crying babies on here im a Pats fan & it was very clear that the Pats deserved every call they got minus the 5min major it was worth 2 mins easy tho...

THere is a thing where when the other team controls the 1st 40 mins that puts the other team on the defense who are more prone to taking penalties cuz they r always trying to get the puck back.

The only thing i have to say about the refs tonite was the Martell check from behind was worth a 5min major, the Stevenson clip wasnt worth anything more then a 2min minor.

My only gripe is in OT when you take away a scoring chance, there should be at MINIMAL a 2 minute penalty. The Refs played too big of a part in this outcome and it's not what it should be, it should be up to the players. Great game though both ways, both teams had their chances, it was great! But really, who leaves when a game is in double overtime!!! WTF!? Do you really have to beat the traffic! Unbelievable.

Beach was invisible, other than falling over. But really, the little guys stepped it up for the warriors and showed their depth.

We battled hard all night and really, fought the refs all night. Even as MJ fans, you have to admit it. Granted they let everything go in OT, but if we would've hauled down a Warrior like MJ did Oulette (I do believe) on the breakaway, you know damn well that Wieler calls us for probably a penalty shot, but minor at best. It's uncanny that these referees don't also get fined or reviewed for that sort of thing.

But down 3-1, she's a big hole to climb out of......insert MJ mom joke here!?? LOL....nah.

Anonymous said...

I'm going to say, that a lot of the penalties that were called on the Pats, were penalties. It's when the opposing team does the EXACT SAME THINGS and DOESN'T get called! Warriors fans would be livid if it was called the other way around.

Otherwise, Pats played a very good game tonight, and probably would have won this one in regulation. Hoping the Pats can pull off some magic, but it's going to be really tough now.

And... I liked the comment about Beach forgetting to take his skate guards off. 100% true. If you touch that guy at all below his waste, he's down on the ice.

FG

Anonymous said...

Will also just note that Beach could be facing another suspension. I'm pretty sure all 'hit to the head' penalties are automatically reviewed, and seeing Beach's history, he may be sitting another game or two. Does this matter in the long run? ...probably not, but just saying it's possible.

Terrible call, it was right in front of me. MJ fan next to me asked me what clipping was, haha.

Good hockey game. Moose Jaw has a better team, but Pats showed true grit. Hope there's is a game 6 but I doubt it.

Anonymous said...

It's too bad a blog has to turn into a pissing match when that game was one of the most exciting things to happen in the WHL this season. It had everything, scoring, suspense, two teams coming from behind to send fans into a frenzy. But you get one guy driving the bus with the full intent of turning fans on each other and this is the result. Good on the Regina Pats for battling hard. The Warriors were able to get the last bounce. Take a second to remember these are, for the most part, kids in high school that you're chirpping at. Enjoy it for what it is.

There is no doubt I am a Warrior fan, it was a good game last night, Weal certainly came to play and Hewitt was outstanding. The Warriors have a balanced attack. Refs aside the Pats lost and it is now going to be tough to win 3 in a row, but certainly it will not be a walk in the park the rest of the way for the tribe, They need to be ready to play.I said it at the first of the yr and i will say it now, give Chad Lang time he will build a powerhouse and get the Pats back to respectabilty

Anonymous said...

Ya I do know what I'm talking about. I didn't say he didn't work his tail off, I said he was useless. Just because, as you think, he works his tail off doesn't make him a good hockey player...but I guess you're snmarter than the coaches....by the way he is 18 not 17 cement head!!

Anonymous said...

So as Pats fans we are all very mad about the Stevenson call, but we're only mad at the refs. How come no one has said what he heck was he thinking? He has no business doing what he did.

If it had been Beach we would have been screaming for incarceration. Stevenson got what he deserved and ultimately I guess the Pats did to. Selfishness doesn't work in team sports.

And I agree with not being able to clear our own zone. If you look at the series I bet on 95% of mj goals the Pats had a chance to clear the puck and didn't. The boards kids, shoot it up the boards.

We are as much to blame as the refs or even mj that were are down 3-1. It's been entertaining for sure.

I enjoyed the game from start to finish, it was so exciting. The only gripe I have is with the post game comments from Regina's coach. He was talking about the bad refing, rightfully so, but then he said "Let the players settle the game." Ironic that just three days ago he took the time to personally see that Cody Beach was suspended for an on ice comment. I don't know what Beach said, nor do I care at this point but give your head a shake, you can't have it both ways.

RP, I'm putting this on your blog and Scruffy's too. Here goes.

Why is it officials never have to stand in front of a camera to defend themselves. If Marincin or McIlrath or whoever screws up, a camera is put in his face and he is asked to try and tell us what was going through his mind.

I would love to know the thoughts of these two bozos as to why they made such a terrible call and why they ignored some of the other stuff (ie: Davidson slash that took him out of the game).

That is a penalty I didn't even know existed and walking around the Dome, many others didn't either. What a travesty!

the pats color commentator should take a hike because he sucks!!!! Who the hell hired this guyv hes a retard it sounds like hes never watched a hockey game in his life. James gallo is not that good either but at least he doesnt make up penalties like your guy does or when the puck sails by the net he says hewitt saves it and it was 3 feet away from the net! BRUTAL! shut up about the reffing already you lost plain and simple and the pats would not blame the refing!

So clipping is some sort of wierd penalty that hasn't been called in like a thousand years according to Pats fans.Well I hate to tell you but Patrick Holland from Tri cities just got a game suspension for a clipping major.Check out the WHL site.

I watched the broadcast on the internet last night and was ready to smash my computer. The first part of the game all it did was keep freezing up.Finally got working last part of the game.Anyone else have trouble or just me.Secondly who the hell controls the camera. The play is going on and all you have is that damn spinning Pats logo. The winning goal is scored and they don't even show anything just cut back to that spinning logo.

Anonymous said...

We won't have to go to a blog for coverage of our team since we'll still be going to the rink to watch them... Stevenson is the same player as beach but he's just not magnified as much as Cody because Cody better at his role yet everybody complains about beach and never says anything bad about Stevenson. But maybe I'm just looking through my rose colored glasses. Who knows

Anonymous said...

Diehard Pats fan here, but Moose Jaw you have a gem in that Point kid. Have watched him play in Alberta and was curious to see how (if) he'd perform at the next level a year or two from now. But he's bringing it already as a 15 year old. Pretty impressive....again a kid "they" said would never make it because he was on the smaller side.

Anonymous said...

Eberle is 18 but he's a 17 in hockey age... Cement head

So all you couch refs clipping is a penalty. Lets hope there is a suspension for his sake or he may have to answer to McIIrath or Beach Friday night

I missed the game but did watch the OT and 2OT online.

Wow! to think that this series was SO close to being tied up at 2.

This Pats team has already accomplished a great deal, and the fans need to understand that playoff success doesn't come overnight. The teams that have the workhorses with 2-3 years in the playoffs usually stretch it out.

Hopefully the Pats put in the same effort in Game 5 in order to get that home game 6. One just never knows.

Eesh said...

The refs are suppose to be invisible Zebras out there, but last night they were the main attraction. I've never been to a Pats game where the crowd has let the officials have it as much as they did last night.

I agree with the double minor for CBH, but the 5 minute major was one of the absolute worst calls I can remember seeing in recent memory in hockey. The play was already at center ice and had no effect on they game it self. For those of you that say it should have been a 5, then why was the hit to the head call MJ got not a 5 minute penalty?

Then you have two players after a whistle doing everything short of fighting, and the refs just let them do their thing and no Penaly? Thats funny because in the first period you couldn't breathe on a guy without calling one but hey call a 5 minute major with 7 minutes left in the 3rd.

You could clearly see Brett Montsion's (54), Nathan Wieler's (18) emotions on display. An official should not and can not let their emotions get the best of them.

POORLY officiated game. Other than that is was a great game.

Anonymous said...

Didn't Beach take a shot to the head penalty? Why is that a minor and not a major? That was the worst officiating performance I have seen at the Brandt Centre for years. I hope Kevin Muench was upstairs watching that happen.

Anonymous said...

From disapppointment to heartbreak for the Pats.
And talking about the penalty, I saw the same thing happen in period 3 in game 3 when a warrior player clipped a Pat player near the boards, but there was no call. The Pats player took a bit of time to get up unlike last nights play. Inconsistent reffing shouldn't happen in the playoffs.

Anonymous said...

To the anon "idiot" who keeps on bashing Regina kid Tanner Eberle of the MJW. He IS born in 1994, making him a "17" year old player according to WHL rules. He will be an overage 3 full seasons from now. Can you read? Because you certainly can NOT do math. Yes, he was born in Jan, 1994, but he's still classified as a 17 year old. DUH! I will guarantee you the Regina Pats would take him in a split second given the chance. He's a hard working, effective role player who plays a regular shift on a line with Miller and Beach. (Ask Dyson Stevenson how tough he is too) Did you know that you don't have to be a goal scorer to be an effective player??? Did nobody ever share that with you, it's in Hockey Manual For Dummies on page 1.

Now climb back from under your rock and give the Regina kid a break. If the Pats had a few more Tanner Eberle's they'd be far better off.

Anonymous said...

Clipping - Clipping is the act of throwing the body, from any direction, across or below the knees of an opponent.
Major Penalty - If an injury occurs as a result of this “clipping” check, the player must be assessed a major penalty
so MJ fans Explain why REGINA fan shouldnt be upset

Watch the highlights and tell me that on the game tying goal whether or not Montson pushes the net back on the moorings just before the goal goes in. Why would he do that and not whistle the play dead? It sure looks like he gave Moose Jaw a real break on that one.

Anonymous said...

I watched on the Ipad and the stream was fine.

Few thoughts...

Fairly even game.

This was the first game of the series i've watched but if Moose Jaw is the more physical team it didn't show last night. I thought Davidson had more hits than the Warriors team combined.

Howden made the Pats d-men look silly on his second period rush.

Was hoping to see what all of the hype about Beach was about but he was mostly ineffective.

Was impressed with young Brayden Point. He seems like a very composed young player.

No replays of any penalties were shown on the live feed. It's too bad because i would have liked to see the clipping call. As much as i like yelling and screaming at my tv when the noise meter comes on i'd prefer to see the replays.

I am not sold on Moose Jaw's goaltending. It's good enough to get by Regina but i don't think it will hold up against Medicine Hat.

As a Warriors fan I will say this: The Pats deserved that game, but the Warriors deserved game 1! The series is right where it should be. The nice thing about Braydan Point is, with him being so small he will be here for 5 years! but this is just the way hockey is now, from the NHL to little guys, the refs think they are the game and has gotten worse with the 2 man system, i for one do not know what a penalty is any more, how can you expect the players to know, everyone says to respect the refs, but do the refs respect the game or the fans who come to watch, i for one in getting sick of paying money or watching the game on tv and watching the refs blow the game, this is what is wrong with the game today
if you think I'm wrong, just watch game 7 of the stanley cup last year, worse officiated game ever done in the NHL

The MooseJaw Warrior are dirty players and did not deserve to win that game. It was totally a onesided game. I wonder how much they had to pay the refs so that they could win that one. I hope Beach does get suspended for another game since he got a checking to the head penalty. He was pretty useless out there last night. He couldn't even stand up. If someone just bumps into him lightly, he goes down and acts as if he is hurt. He is nothing but a big baby. He'll never go far in his hockey career. I love how the MJ fans feel they have to come on here and comment all the time. Get your own blog and talk over there. We don't need to hear your stupid comments. You should really learn to be more classy.

WORST REFFING EVER- the WHL should be embarrassed. I am from MJ and I was truly embarrassed that we had to win like that. I went to both Regina games and I as a long time Warrior fan could even see how one sided it was. These are just kids-on both teams, even though i cheer for my team i still dont like watching kids try hard and have no chance because of reffing. I'm sorry Pats fans - you guys are right , it was terrible. I just hope that the "four blind mice" didn't rob the entire province of a game seven, or the MJ organization of an extra gate, simply embarrassing WHL.

Met some real nice fans in MJ and some real nice ones here. There are a few iggnorant crazies on both sides but overall we both appreciate good hockey. The few that bring insults and stupidity on both sides do us good fans both sides, a dis-service. I know from talk with MJ fans they wouldn't have liked to lose the way we did. The officiating was brutal for both teams but the Pats really got wronged and had game officials rob them. That's not their job. I felt MJ was too deep in talent to lose this series but felt it would go six or seven games. The refs last night have pretty much ended that scenario. It's too bad a couple of grown men snatched something away from them. It's not the fault of the MJ fans or even the players. This one is entirely on Wieler and Montison.

I don't think I have watched a game where the refs/linesman were in the way of the play as much as they were last night. All because they trade everything to have the deepest offence in the league and they don't get a goalie!!!! hahahaah Siemens is AAAWWWEEEFFUULLL Have fun MJ, if you win you get two more weeks of something to do in MJ, as for Regina fans, we'll barely notice cause there are so many other things to do here and sports teams to follow. I guess you can always drive to Regina which you "all" do in the summer to watch sports, if you say you don't your either a liar or to poor to afford gas or our extravagant city.

I'm a Pats fan and I attend most of the games.

I disagreed with the officials on a number of their penalties and non-penalties, and I've never seen the Brandt Centre crowd so upset at the referees. The WHL should be aware that a lot of the 6000 fans in attendance last night walked away from the game quite upset.

The Pats players had a lot to overcome in this one. Moose Jaw is a better team, but in one game/short series - guts and determination can be enough and the Pats played with guts and determination.

I hope the Pats players don't take this loss too hard. The amount of heart, and effort I saw was special enough to bring a tear to the eyes of am old guy who doesn't get too fired up about sports. That level of guts and determination will serve them well in life, even if the game of hockey isn't always fair.

Yes it will serve them well so get them a 2011-12 participation medal that says Everybody Wins!

To the Anon who said Siemans is awful:

If that is so, why are the Pats down 3 to 1? Is Hewitt worse?

Anonymous said...

The refs deserve to be blamed. I honestly thought he fell down. But even if you want to make that call, two minutes would have been plenty.

Will the WHL comment on it?

The game last night was one of the better games between the Pats & the Warriors in recent years.

The officiating was horrible, if it fell the other way the Warrior fans would agree as well.

I can not get over the supposed grown people that write the trash that they do about either city on this blog. I suspect that there is a lot of envy behind the comments.

Grow up, Rod called it like it was, for all we know the same band of refs might do the same number on the Warriors on Friday that they did no the Pats last night. If that is the case, see how it makes you feel.

GO PATS

The Pats always have much to overcome. The fix has been in this series. There are people who know this within this city. There is stuff which should be brought to light. True integrity is hard to find and can often be bought, usually fairly cheap!

Anonymous said...

If you know that "the fix is in" perhaps you should go to the proper authorities and file a complaint! You are talking nonsense when you say: there are people who know this within the city." Show us your proof or stop talking this nonsense!

Always entertaining on here. Rod must laugh at how easy it is for him to stir things up.

GO RIDERS GO!!

Some of these comments are ridiculous. Moose Jaw is a better team, and deserves to have a 3-1 series lead. End of story. We are simply not as good.

I get sick and tired of the same ole same ole nonsense around here, which is why I will post this and then I am done. Why don't the Pats organization (and fans) STOP the whining already... You all sound like babies:

1. Pats complain about fan support

2. Pats complain about Riders and their media attention

3. Pats complain about Cody Beach

4. Pats complain about bad reffing

5. Pats complain about bad security at MP

STOP THE BITCHING!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't read through all the comments to see if somebody else already brought this up but this is from the league's discipline webpage..03/28/12 Patrick Holland Tri-City One game for clipping major and g.m. at Everett on March 27...This wasn't the ref's out to get the Pats...it was away from the play, a dirty hit that was worthy of a penalty. It's a play that happens sometimes, clearly since the same penalty was called 2 days ago in Everett, just because it doesn't happen often doesn't mean it shouldn't be called when it does happen. Show some class Pats fans, the refs didn't beat you, a better hockey team did.

The Point Kid is sick The thing most dont know is that He has done this alot, at alot of big tourneys and big games he score big goals a smaller player who just scores goal has done it at every level and regina has 5 more years of that to watch Go Warriors

Excerpt from Whl's explanation of the Samuellson clipping a couple weeks ago...
"Should a player, who is skating in a forward motion, deliberately lower his body in such a manner as to make contact with the opponent below the waist, he shall be assessed a major and a game misconduct for clipping. There will be no option for a minor penalty in this situation."

From the pipeline show blog.... Now you can all shut up! Pretty clear now why Dyson got that penalty

Do you know why they named that pukey little City Moose Jaw??
Simply because back in the day they couldn't name it Moose Ass!

See on whl.ca that Brent Parker got fined $2500 fro inappropriate comments last night. Stephenson got one game for the clipping call - league must have reviewed the film and agreed with on ice officials.

Here is a cut and paste of the rule... The above poster left out far too much... Need I say that there was NO injury on this play!

Rule 44 - Clipping
44.1 Clipping - Clipping is the act of throwing the body, from any direction, across or below the knees of an opponent.
A player may not deliver a check in a “clipping” manner, nor lower his own body position to deliver a check on or below an opponent’s knees.
An illegal “low hit” is a check that is delivered by a player or goalkeeper who may or may not have both skates on the ice, with his sole intent to check the opponent in the area of his knees. A player may not lower his body position to deliver a check to an opponent’s knees.
44.2 Minor Penalty - A player who commits these fouls will be assessed a minor penalty for “clipping.”
44.3 Major Penalty - If an injury occurs as a result of this “clipping” check, the player must be assessed a major penalty (see 44.5).
44.4 Match Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match penalty if, in his judgment, the player attempted to or deliberately injured his opponent by clipping.
44.5 Game Misconduct Penalty - A game misconduct penaltymust be assessed anytime a major penalty is applied for injuring an opponent by clipping.

Reading the above rule. The playe deserved a minor.. NOT a major

Don't think Stevenson is too worried about fighting Beach or Mcllrath, may not win but not scared considering he has fought Beach this year and has asked both of them to go in this series numerous times!

Anonymous said...

Just up on the WHL site.Parker fined 2500.00 and Stevenson suspended one game

Anonymous said...

Wow, over a 100 comments, this is more then most Rider games. This is the most publicity the Pats have had since the 2001 Mem Cup. Too bad it isn't good publicity.

"clipping" can be called when the player had intent to injur!

Sir.....
YOU ARE CORRECT, SIR!!! (Insert Ed McMahon guffaws here).
Brett Montsion was one of the referees in the MJHL playoff game when the gator known as Marlin Murray lost his mind!!!

The first thing I would be complaining about is management, getting Cody Beach suspended. I don't understand why you would want him suspended, he cost the warriors at least 2 penalties a game and yet you want him out of the game. That should be one of their strategies to get him taking stupid penalties. Don't see the logic in this and now your president gets fined and everyone is pointing the finger at the ref's. This is not how you win at hockey. I good team takes his bad fortune and moves on. When are the people going to wake up and start relizing everything starts at the top. This is the wrong way of going about this. Time for change.
