2011 PLAZA INDUCTEES ANNOUNCED

Today the Saskatchewan Roughrider Plaza of Honor Committee announced three new members will be inducted into the Plaza of Honor. This year Corey Holmes, Dan Rashovich and Mike Saunders will have their names forever etched into Saskatchewan Roughrider history.

Besides being Saskatchewan’s most prestigious sporting dinner, the Plaza of Honor Dinner has contributed over $5.9 million to the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club.

The Plaza of Honor Dinner presented by SaskTel has inducted 110 individuals who have made major contributions to the proud tradition of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club. The club has also inducted the 1966, 1989 and 2007 Grey Cup championship teams.

The cairn honouring the Plaza of Honor Inductees is situated outside the main gates on the west side of Mosaic Stadium. The Plaza of Honor cairn is sponsored by SaskTel, SASK SPORT INC. and the City of Regina.

This year’s dinner is set for Friday, October 14th at the Queensbury Centre at Evraz Place. For information on tickets or corporate tables, contact the Saskatchewan Roughrider Ticket Office at 525-1281 or 1-888-474-3377 or any committee member.

I didn't know Corey Holmes was a QB?
• Finished his CFL career with over 30,000 passing yards and 190 passing TD’s.

Think you made a mistake there roddy.
Keep up the good work though. Definetly three of my favorites.

You seriously think I wrote it? I'll have to go back and check the news release.

Rod. 3 outstanding choices IMO.

I know people always talk about Omarr Morgan leaving and not winning a cup, but I always like the story about Corey Holmes coming back and getting his ring with the Riders.

Three very deserving choices.

Rashovich is very debatable. He was not an impact player, on extremely terrible teams. He stayed around because he'd work cheap for Al Ford, we didn't have any depth to push him out.

Mike Saunders is very deserving, and it is long overdue. He was Wes Cates for this team, without the Offensive Line protection. He left with lots of gas left in his tank, but selling medical supplies I guess was more rewarding then playing with a bunch of Losers.

Corey Holmes. Yes, but I'd wait a generation before putting him in so people could get the proper perspective of how great he was as a Rider.

When you only win 3 Grey Cups in 100 years, I can see why they'll be moving up the 2007 class.

All good choices (i guess) but really we created our mess here with the Plaza of Honor by inducting marginal players or "one hit wonders".
There isn't really any great players left, who played outside the past 6-7 years.

Obama, are you going to inform the folks that you and Rashovich worked together after he retired? Kind of an important tidbit when you're trashing someone, don't ya think?

If by "worked together", you mean Raz got me a cup of coffee for the 15 minute meeting I attended with him present in 2000 I didn't think it would be germaine to the discussion.

Tim McCray not being in the Plaza is a serious oversight.

How did Obama trash Rashovich?

He wrote it is a debatable pick.

From that era of Rider football ask this question. Would it hurt the team more if Ventson Donelson didn't play on Defense or Dan Rashovich? He wasn't even the best LB in the core yet he gets in due to campaigning.
Come on, be honest about it.
