Canada 3 USA 2 OT

VANCOUVER - Canada has capped the Golden Games with the medal that matters, beating the United States 3-2 in an Olympic hockey overtime thriller at Canada Hockey Place.

Sidney Crosby scored on a low shot through Ryan Miller's legs
seven minutes 40 seconds into overtime to decide the last medal of the Vancouver Olympics.

It's Canada's 14th gold of the Vancouver Games, breaking the
record for most gold medals at a Winter Olympics. The Soviet Union, in 1976, and Norway, in 2002, each won 13.

Zach Parise sent the game into overtime, stuffing in a rebound
from in close off a Patrick Kane shot with 24.4 seconds left and
Miller on the bench.

That forced a 20-minute sudden-death overtime, played
four-on-four.

Jonathan Toews and Corey Perry scored for Canada in the first and second period, respectively. Miller stood tall the rest of the game in the U.S. net.

Anybody but Crosby. I'm so sick of the Canadian media trying to convince me that he's the greatest. For three games the rest of the team carried him but just watch what the media writes about him now. Go Canada Go.

Thank you Team Canada! When the U.S tied the game I experienced the same kicked in the gut feeling as I did watching the Rider 09 Grey Cup.
Thanks for pulling off the win, it feels much better!!

Yeh Paco; did you notice how gracefully Crosby muffed that breakaway with 3 minutes to go.

Ticky...take another look, Sid was chopped down from the blueline in....I doubt you've ever played the game, so there'll be no need to respond to any further posts of yours.

Ticky, it's called having the puck poked off of his stick by a American player. God get a life and be thankful this did not turn out like World Juniors.

Crosby did score the GOLD medal game winning goal...good for him, even the Great One does not have the Olympic credentials that Crosby has!!!

Yes, Crosby accidentally led a World junior team to a gold, captained a team to a Stanley Cup, led a team to a Memorial cup final, scored a shootout winner in the opening round of the Olympics and OT winner in the gold medal game all because the media made him do it....wow

Ticky....Canada won Gold.... that's all that matters.... not negative crap about Crosby this Crosby that.... It's for our country... would you rather have Rafalski score the winner? obviously you jumped on the Canadian bandwagon when the Czechs got putout lol.... Now get off there's no room on here for you.... Way to Go CANADA!!

There is so much to say about the gold medal men’s ice hockey game at the 2010 Winter Olympics. First, as an American, I am disappointed with the outcome. However, I was impressed that the USA was able to force overtime. The game-tying goal was exciting to see, and I honestly didn’t expect the USA to score it. Luongo played very well in goal for Canada, but I am shocked Miller got the Olympic MVP Award. Giving the award to a player who lost the gold medal game is unusual, but he did keep the USA in the game and had a stellar tournament overall.

Congratulations to Canada and I am at least glad the men did not celebrate in the same fashion that the Canadian women did when they won the gold medal. I am also happy that this game did not go to a shootout. That would have been an awful way to decide this game and the gold medal winner.

The US wasn't expected to medal.... they weren't even expected to finish in the top four.

They however went undefeated and looked like the favourites after pummeling Canada in the round robin, and then Finland in the semis.... As an American you should be proud of that young team. That team has everything, touhgness, skill, speed, goaltending, look out in 2014, they might be the ones to beat.

That being said, as a canadian, I'm going to savour this victory over the Americans. Because throughout the tournament, the Americans deserved to win until that final buzzer. Lookout for this rivalry to pick up in the future.
