This is exactly the same feeling as '76. We had a crew together to watch that one out on Tremaine Ave in Regina. Brand new neighborhood and brand new family. Except then we were a team on the decline. In 2010, we can be The Team and will need to be better in all positions if we think for one moment we will be in Edmonton next Fall. No one owes the Rider nation one damned thing ... we have to go out there and EARN it. Get your head up and bring the PRIDE ALIVE!!
Hi, Rod. Like most fans you are hearing from, I am so proud of our team. I can't wait to see what our hungry Riders will be capable of next year. I'm so pleased to hear about the good turn-out at Taylor Field yesterday. I'm sure the crowd would have been much bigger if those of us travelling back from Calgary were not still on the road. I know I would have been there. By the way, I agree with you that the west final at Taylor Field was much louder than the Grey Cup at McMahon. There's no place like home! Anna
One last comment. I keep hearing on TSN, etc. that the fans want to know who the 13th man was. No, the media wants to know! We fans know that the team wins and loses together. The media should let this go.
Two things: 1) I love how all the facebook updates were "f this" and "f u Reed", then when the fire settled down, it's lovey dovey to the Riders. Never did I ask for someone's job, yes I was dissappointed, but hey, S**t happens and life goes on, we have a good team, we will be back.
2) I would like to thank Rod for putting up with all our crap all year and for the many more (allbeit lighter) crap he is gonna put up with the pats stuff. It takes an insane man to do the things he does day in and day out for all of us to read and write about.
Thanks guys!! Riders and RP!!
Now let's get the Pats rolling and start with some crowd support on Saturday and Sunday!
Sean Lucas was on for the first play and not the second, but really, does it matter!?
Best thing I heard yesterday, Riders are human too, they made a mistake and can be forgiven for it!
I don't want to know we don't need to know it happened we can't change it now, lest just try and move on from it.I wasn't around in 76 so I don't know how it felt back then, all I know is how I felt then and still feel now that is like someone ripped my heart out.But from talking with my family who were alive to see it in 76 they say that is much much more harder to take. But with that said they also said that this team and that team don't have muck in common.Sure they were lead by great qb's and had good receivers but that's it. The 76 team was on a steady down fall this team is building stronger every season and every game. And one of the reasons it took so long for them to get over that 76 loss, is because of that and and the fact that we did not even get back to the show in 13 years which we won of course. But these Riders will be back soon very soon next year and for years to come after that.
Thanks for another great season of Rider football! Can't wait for the new season to begin! This team has made great strides... knowing the administration won't stand still and will look to improve... will make next year another great seaosn for the Riders!!
Caesar I agree. What doesn't kill you makes you better and the motivation gained from this and the will to get back to the Cup next year and right the ship is extrodinary!
We lost-ot's over-ot's nobody's fault. They had a great year and have a great future. get over it people-it's just a game. Someone has to win and someone has to loose. How would you like to be the Buffalo Bills loosing 5 Super Bowls-lol.
We have good talent and they will be back. Congrats on a great season riders, you proved me wrong and almost one the Cup.....!!!!!!
Rod, Thanks for the great year of broadcasting and blogging. It really kept us well informed. I am still hurt/mad at the results of the game, but look at the obits. in the paper or other bad news and think about that, and maybe we can put the loss in perspective! It is so hard to get to the Grey Cup, and I do appreciate the work and effort the Riders organization but into it, only to have it snatched away from them. Let's try to keep our morale and courage up. Thanks again, Rod! GO RIDERS GO!! Pat in MJ
Rod, Thanks for your dedication and professionalism. I would be lost without your blog. I had awesome seats for the GC and I have to say Calgary is a nice looking city but shitty parking. I am very proud how the Riders showed so much adversity and character this year. I hope ET stays and we continue this trend upwards and never look back. GO RIDERS GO
Thanks for a great blogging and broadcasting season. It is time to move on and we look forward to a new year and more successful seasons. Riders did us all proud and there is nothing to be ashamed of. It all started in 1997 and just keeps getting better for Canada's Team.
We had a great time in Calgary - but do have a suggestion for the organizers of Riderville... DO NOT sell advance tickets. We waited in line for 4 hours and 15 minutes on Saturday night to get in. We had bought our tickets in advance (and yes we read the disclaimers on the tickets) for Saturday night. We went down there at 4:30 pm and the line up was out the door and around the corner at the convention center. We would have most likely stuck it out anyways, but since we had bought our advance tickets we felt we had to stay or be out $15 each. I would have rather paid $20 at the door and left the option to leave and not be out any money. If being a season ticket holder, share holder, a dedicated fan and organized enough to get an advance ticket doesn't get us anything extra - then don't sell advance tickets. There was someone at the door collecting $20 from people that didn't have advance tickets anyways... ps- yes, the wait was worth it!! Matt Dominquez came in right after us and signed my jersey and I got my picture taken with him - he stayed most of the night and was great!!
16 free agents Kornegay, Cates, Stevie Baggs, Marcus Adams, Eddie Davis, Steven Jyles, Omarr Morgan and Chris Szarka are among the big name free agents.
Joffrey Reynolds is a free agent too. and is apparently going to test the market.
Wouldn't he look good in green and white ?
The riders could make a decent run at him if they wanted him.
and how could you NOT want him on your team.
Sunday was an amazing day with a stunning finish. One that I will talk about for the rest of my life. It was an amazing atmosphere to be a part of. I loved talking to all the friendly fans from all over the country. I even shook hands with mark Cohon. I wouldn't trade my weekend for anything. Go Riders. Get them next year.
Those are the big names we need to sign, their contributions are valuable. Baggs is a must. Not sure how much gas in the tank does Eddie Davis have, but he is also a valuable team motivator, will make a great full time defensive backs coach in the future.
Agree about Reynolds, but Joffrey said he prefers to stay in Calgary. Rod, How long is Coach Miller signed for? Riders also need to sign Durant to a long term, great QB development, Bishop was a nightmare, wander what would happened last year if Durant started, I know it was Crandell's.
Apparently decent running backs are a dime a dozen in the states. I'd be more inclined to spend money on signing some of our potential free agents on the defensive side of the football ala Kornegay, Baggs etc.
Kudos to Coach Kavis Reed for stepping up and taking responsibility for what happened. That took a lot of courage and class to face those cameras after the game. That would not be an easy thing to do. Can't wait for next year, go Riders!
whomever it is that is trying to figure out who the guilty player was; that was on the field when that fatal kick was made, needs to get a grip. Does it freaken matter at this point? NO!!! Unfortunately it shouldn't have happened, and it freaken sucks A** that it did happen, but it did. Yes there is no doubt that this should have happened during a game period, especially a game of this magnitude. However should this player face public humilation and ridicule because of this. Absolutely not, it's not the fault of one player or coach that cost the Riders the victory. I mean how about the defence? they couldn't stop the Al's and gave up a lead that at the ten minute mark looked imsurmountable. How about the offence? They weren't able to generate a first down, when the game was on the line and mattered the most. The fact is sports is not a one man show, unless we are talking golf, bowling(even that is a team sport sometimes), horseshoe, lawn darts and/or darts period, or I can't figure this out but for some reason Texas Holdem has become a sport? Football, however is a team sport and a team wins or looses collectively. There has never been a win or a loss contributed to one player in football, that I can recall, well unless we go back and talk about McCallum and shanking a 13yard field goal. :-) JK The Riders on Sunday did not lose on a last second field goal, and was not because of a ill advised mental error. There were many contributing factors that resulted in the Rider not being crowned Grey Cup Champions in 09. The #1 reason for this loss, is because Montreal is a better team, and in fact they were the better team on Sunday. Montreal was able to gain momentum and turn what was an ugly game by them into a Grey Cup Championship. They were able to do what they needed to do to win, when the game mattered the most. As far as everyone saying well we will be back in 2010, yes it would be nice to think this, but this is far from a guarantee. There are no guarantees in life except for life and death. I mean unless someone knows something that the rest of us don't. If this is the case can you please let the league office know to just update the cup with the names of the Riders roster that make the team in June 2010. You know, I Maybe it makes you feel better to believe that the Riders are defenitely Grey Cup bound, in 2010? or if it makes it easier to accept the fact that they blew what was as close to a guaranteed championship as there ever was in a game of this calibre. Then I say whatever, go for it, however the fact remains that the other teams in the CFL are not just going to hand over the title and call the Riders Grey Cup Champions at the end of the year. I think it's great that Durant believes and is confident that the Riders will be in the Grey Cup next year, and for a few years. However I don't think the team and we fans should get to overly confident on this becoming a guarantee. The Riders are young, and look to have a great nucleous. Management will have to address a few key areas on the roster. However as long as the majority of this team is kept in tact, they do stand a good chance. We can all hope that the memory of this ugly loss haunts this team all winter, and they come back hungry and determined in getting back to the dance and making ammends for this collasol collapse. P.S. Besides, I have heard they are going to impliment basic arithmetic, into the training camps curriculum. :-) JK
I don't think anyone has stated it is a guarantee the Riders will make it far next year. People have stated the Riders can hopefully turn this year into a positive and use Sunday's game as motivation just like Montreal did.

Hi Rod, don't know if you heard this yet. Its the fan590 in Toronto doing a phone call. Don Cherry is phoning in to talk about too many men penalties.
Good for a giggle.

Hey Roddie
Thanks for everything this season.
A huge thanks to the Riders, it was a hell of a roller coaster ride. Can't wait for next year.
Any updates on Rob Bagg? Hopefully he has a quick recovery.
See you Jan. 23rd
