The Labour Day To End All Labour Days

This morning I'm having a very difficult time wrapping my head around what a massive circus this weekend's Labour Day Classic XLIII in Regina is going to be.

It wasn't enough to have "Coach Crotch" Mike Kelly of Winnipeg coming to Regina to face abuse on the eastside sidelines and all the rest in Sunday's game.

Adding intrigue is the the Riders' signing of Jason Armstead (pictured in a mugshot below) in the past 24 hours.

But this latest news takes the CAKE!! Late last night the Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed NFL bad boy Adam Pacman Jones (pictured in a mug shot at the top of the page). This guy's been booted out of the NFL for a list of offenses as long as your arm.

Here's the story from SI.com:

"If controversial cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones is going to return to the NFL, it will be via the Canadian Football League. Jones agreed in principle to a one-year deal with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers late Monday night and is expected to join the team as early as Wednesday.

"It'll be a good experience for me to get back in game shape and compete and play football, which I like to do," Jones told SI.com. "I'm real happy for the opportunity that's been given to me. Of course it's disappointing to me to not be playing in the NFL. But things happen and you have to adjust. " "

Seriously -- can you IMAGINE what a gongshow this is going to be come Sunday??

Not only will we have the nation's eyes peering in on the huge showdown between the 4-4 Riders and the 3-5 Blue Bombers but now there will be MASSIVE attention from the U.S. as NFL fans try to get a glimpse of Pacman Jones in the Canadian game.

Whew! I've got to sit down for a minute to absorb this.

What a week this is going to be....

By the way, tune into In The Huddle tonight on Access 7 to catch the latest on the Riders and hear Jason Armstead's thoughts on returning to Saskatchewan.

7:00pm province-wide on all Access affiliates....

----

The Riders are being criticized by SOME for bringing in CFL recyclables Armstead and OL Antonio Hall this week.

What they don't know is that KOR Eric Morris is still injured, and actually played in Week 8 at Montreal while still injured. He could be lost for some time.

Same goes for OT Bobby Harris, who left the Montreal game in the 1st quarter. He's likely going to go on the 9-game injured list. OT Belton Johnson is still a few weeks away.

NFL cutdown won't happen for several days, so all the players the Riders have their eyes on (not to mention on their negotation list) aren't available immediately. Armstead and Hall were, and they fill the need.

Not to mention, it's easier to bring in CFL vets midseason who know the rules (particularly on special teams) rather than try to give a rookie import a crash course.

Okay - have a great day...

His comments indicate that he thinks the CFL is a cake walk, typical American stupidity. I hope he gets lit up and never plays NFL again.

Whoa. This means The Rider highlights will be all over American Sportscentre Monday.
Wow.

I think you might be reading a bit too much into it, DOC.

Also, how about McGahee instead of Armstead? I thought he did ok, other than that one drop that lead to a TD.

Rod,

I don't get all of the crotch references with Kelly. Wasn't that months ago? And, actually listening to the soundbite makes it clear that it was all tongue in cheek.

These reactions just make people from Saskatchewan look over sensitive and it's embarassing. Kelly's certainly a boob, but his crotch comment doesn't even deserve any consideration. He made a tongue-in-cheek comment while playing to his audience.

Oh the horrors. Let's let it go already, because if stuff like this and Westwood's comments back in 2003 really get people going in this province, then we DESERVE to be made fun of.

Pacman visits Crotchland?

What better fit for such a dick!

Your halftime show can feature Armstead and Jones swapping prison stories.

Dominguez! What's the word Big Bird?

Heard there is something going on

Untuck your jersey! Sheesh!

Hey, Kelly's the one that fired the first shot. If he wants a war he's gonna get one and trust me, he's gonna hear it Sunday from 31000. Actually, nothing more needs to be said as all we have to do is display that picture on RF of one of his players and him in an "interesting" position. I always knew Winnipeg sucked...

Rule 2
2. Thou shall never, under any circumstances, tuck in a jersey.

Countdown to Mitchell Blair calling the Pacman Jones signing a "joke" in 3...2...1.

I'm not jacked about Pacman Jones comin'. Where the hell are they gonna put him?! Why would you mess with a defense that has won games by themselves this season?

Jeff Hansen said...

That first picture isn't Pacman Jones, by the way. It's Ron Killings, who acted as Jones' "tag team partner" when he was (not) wrestling during his suspension.

I doubt Jones plays this Sunday, or even comes to Regina.

JA

Rod Pedersen said...

Hm. Sure looks like him. I'll correct it when I get off the treadmill.

Jeff is right. That isn't Pacman Jones in the picture. It's Ron Killings. He used to be in the WWE but then wrestled in TNA.

Sorry. I'm not up on my make-believe sports.

What if I'm wearing really short shorts, and to leave it draped would mean looking like I'm wearing a nightshirt... Wow, that's a lot of bad images...

Does anyone remember when former Redskin Barry Wilburn came up here, after being punted by the NFL? Did he get much fanfare from the NFL media? I can't remember with any certainty. If Pacman does play, I'd like to see Weston, or Dominguez, if he re-signs, to go one on one.

The East Side stands are going to be crazy!!

Is Reggie at practise?

Speedo and a tucked in jersey HappGapper! You would have one helluva a package! hahah...wait a second...I just talked about another dude's package...isn't that rule number 56!??

Pacman Jones just made Winnipeg better...but seriously...how the hell did he get across the border!!? Regular people don't get across with just assault charges when they were 16 (until I got a pardon from the RCMP! - long story)!

I guess, he is a good fit in winnipeg, maybe after the banjo bowl he can go smash windows and steal stuff from the cars with Sask plates on them, he could head the dingdongs!

You continue to impress...texting while on the treadmill! Well done! I would fall off somehow! LOL

It's not a wrestling issue, it's a race issue. Rod Pedersen thinks all black people look the same.

Hey Rod, Can you answer me this? How the @#$%!! can pac man even get into this country with a criminal record? Can we say desperate move by "Coach Crotch" One final note I thought you might be interested in, My wife wanted me to kiss her where it stinks. So I am driving her to Winnipeg for the Banjo Bowl!!!

Is Dancers open this weekend? If so, I wonder if Pacman and his entourage will make it rain in there. Look out Regina!

Jeff Hansen said...

Oh, and in answer to those asking how Pacman can cross the border, he plead out to a misdemeanor charge on the Vegas shooting, and has never been charged in any of his other minor incidents.

Thats what happens when you act so childish over a game, yes its a career but there is a line that must be drawn.
