Riders To Sign Armstead

Rider coach Ken Miller announced after Monday's practice that CFL journeyman WR/KOR/PR Jason Armstead is on his way into Regina and pending a physical, will suit up for the team in the Labour Day Classic on Sunday.

Yes, you read that right.

Also, slotback Andy Fantuz was back on the practice field for the first time in a month as he has recovered from a hamstring pull which has caused him to miss four games.

Good move by Miller, hopefully he can bring back that much needed breakout element he once had

Stu Foord plays his heart and soul out and if given the chance on kick returns would have been great, this is a joke.

Happy to see Armstead given another chance, he can now redeem himself. I think other teams were to harsh on him, he is a great kick returner and be a welcome addition to our laughing stock special teams. There will be alot of roster moves before week 9-10 that way full salaries are not guaranteed to existing players, so work your butts off harder or you're cut.

Is this the best man we could recruit? What happened to his legal issues in the States? Is this really the kind of guy we want on the team? Have we forgotten what he did at Mosiac while with the Als last year? Our special teams have been an embarrasment, but this is not an acceptable answer.

this has got to be joke

Seriously? Jason Armstead? What a joke just what we need another cancer like KK in the locker room. The guy is grabage and washed up. If this is the answer to our Special Teams improving then I'm at a loss for words.

Wow ... is Eric Tillman the new Al Ford of GM's? Armstead's really the best available? I thought the days of recycling washed up veterans were gone.

Let's hope this works out better than I am expecting.

Did his father-in-law/Agent negotiate this deal?
lol

Armstead was outstanding for the Bombers last year, smart move by Tillman.

The constant bashing and second guessing of every move Tillman or Miller makes is starting to get rather tiresome. People need to relax. One year ago Tillman could do no wrong with his personell moves and now suddenly everyone thinks he has no clue. Lets get a grip people.

It's funny how everyone wants to remember him for his last game rather than what he has been able to do. I don't think he can hurt us at all. Also I wopuld think he would come back alittle more humble than when he left. Its called growing up. Let us all just give him a chance and let the people that are paid to run this team do so. It's not as though they aren't doing a good job.

I'm an anonymous poster... Riders are terrible, management is useless, Tillman is mindless, Armstead is a hack, Fantuz is only interested in moving home(this is particularly funny since he still has over a season to play his heart out for our team as he always has), Pedersen is awful... and another 14 instances of referring to the decisions of the PROFESSIONALS of the Rider org. as a joke; while I armchair ridicule the team I "love" and dream of a day that I might be called upon to overhaul the whole organization. Then, who knows? Maybe PM of the country?

Always nice for a chuckle though.

There, now that I covered all the bases for you. We can delve into a more productive discussion! HA!

Hope to see some good things in the next few games with the return of Andy, and Army. Glad they're preserving Stooooo and Dressler for our lethal offence.

Not sure if Hunt is the answer but would really like to see a guy get another chance, especially with his history of being a total beast for us.

I think we are on the right track. Just need to get that young special teams firing on all 8 cyl.

Pederson, you rule and you know it...

Isn't the NFL starting later than ever this year? And the NFL cuts are later than ever. Would it be better if they did nothing? We all complain about special teams and the Riders need to beat the Bombers 2 times.

I still say, If you can't provide blocking for the return guy you could have Flash Gordon back there and he STILL won't have a decent return!!!!

I don't mind this move. Armstead is a CFL veteran and certainly can't make our special teams any worse. I assume Tillman made the finances work correctly, and that being turfed from the Riders, TiCats and Bombers has taught Armstead some humility. I see a lot of upside to bringing in Armstead, and virtually no downside. My only question is how much is Armstead going to play at WR?

Better than what we have now, so this is a no brainer!!! I think we are on the right track now that we have Sir Charles back in the offence, along with Cates that will spell trouble for defences.

Fantuz sounds like he is ready to leave. Especially the part where he say's, I have to do what is best for myself... sounds like he is leaning towards free agency and taking the highest offer. I don't think the Riders will get into a bidding war.

Any news on the Reaper returning yet?

I think with fantuz, if he doesnt sign by the trade deadline might as well get something for him.

Does anybody know to what extent Eric Tillman's "administrative leave" extend to scouting. If he is not allowed in the building does that mean he can't travel to camps or work his contacts in the U.S? I am very reluctant to ever criticize the Football Operations. Having stated that, would be my belief why they seem to be going the way of the retreads in Jason Armstead and possibly Reggie Hunt. Armstead was trade to Hamilton due to being ineffective and having a bad attitude. Reggie Hunt expired not only with this club, but also Montreal. This doesn't make sense to me.

He's free to scout but had to cancel a U.S. trip because his back flared up.

That reason then compounded with the enormous stress he must be under has to be effecting his day to day abilities. The physical always extends to the mental, and he must be in a lot of pain. Hopefully Womack who appears to be trustworthy, and a good man has Tillman's best interests at heart. Honestly he must feel like an abandoned man on an island.

Again I'm not rumouring, but I know people that worked for Jim with Prairie Valley. I did consulting for Jim, and got along well. However you piss him off and your world becomes very small and lonely regardless if the check is being deposited every 2 weeks.

I'm not to sure about Jason Armstead comming back. Everyone does deserve a second chance maybe they should bring back Jason French also?

Anonymous said...

Reggie Hunt expired?? Reggie has plenty of playing days ahead of him, and if the Riders can work something out many would be happy to have him back. He is a solid leader on & off the field.

Hey Rod why don't you let this so called alias using "Obama" write your blog? He seems to know it all or he thinks anyway.

I'm not arguing I'm just telling you fact. Reggie Hunt is soooo good that's why they let him leave in the first place or got rid of him I'm not splitting hairs on it. Montreal thought he was soooo good that's why they cut him 9in training camp. Reggie is soooo good that other teams like Wpg, Tor, and BC who are question marks to make the playoffs want nothing to do with him. His old D Cooridnator who is now Head Chef in Edmonton doesn't want him. I told you that the key to being a shrewd talent evaluator means you know when to cut the cord. It wasn't long ago when the talk was, "how could we get get rid of the 2007 League MVP". Eric knew when he was done, and now he's Toronto's problem not ours.

Hey Rod,

Hopefully JA can help our return game...this move surprised me....but if he helps even a little bit it was worth it!

Have you heard anything about Hunt signing being official???
On RiderFans they are saying it is a done deal and he will be at practise tomorrow???

Hunt as a situational player, I can deal with.

Armstead back in the lineup? I had to check the calendar for a moment, as I thought perhaps it had just flipped to April 1.
