Roddie you are just the barer of great news today eh. :-( Oh well you can't blame Kent he is only doing what is best for himself and his family. Sucks being a Rider Fan, but again he is only doing what is best for him and in the end that is the only thing you need to look out for. Good Luck Kent you will be missed. GO OLE MISS

As nice as it is for Kent, it sure sucks for the rest of us.

I am sad to see Kent go but happy for Kent, he gets to go home to a great opportunity. Thanks Kent for your time and hard work. I hope that fans give Kent the thanks and respect he deserves.

Totally an understandable move for Kent. Rider Nation should wish him nothing but the best, for him to have an opportunity like this so early in his coaching career is quite remarkable. Hopefully Ken Miller was paying attention in offensive meetings last season...he is going to have to keep the momentum going from last year.

I wonder if this is R.H.'s big chance to be a head coach now?

Well its not that suprising, if he has hopes of going to the NFL one day or even a head coaching position in NCAA why wouldn't you take the position, its a great career move for Kent and $$$$. i wish him the best and hope he does well.

Hopefully whom ever they hire as the new head coach will be as firery competitior like Kent. And will be able to motivate this team like they were motivated this year.

We should thank Kent for showing us how to be a winner!!!

congrats Kent.

I certainly wish Kent the best as he heads home. He has worked hard and earned his paycheques with the Riders. My only concern is the value to our organization of having coaches on multi-year contracts. The contract only appears to be binding on the orgnization. This is not a sour grapes comment but I know it's on the minds of many of us who are asked to renew season tickets in December.

I could care less. I was here the last time he snubbed the Riders unlike a lot of new add on fans. Kent is gone (for a second time) and frankly I couldn't care less. He came in an took over a team mainly assembled by Shivers and Barrett, fine tuned it and won a Grey Cup by default(no Kevin Glenn). His on again, off again committment to the Riders has become a distraction for both management and fans. The sooner he is gone, the better.

He clearly doesn't want to be here, so clearly we don't need him here. Being an assistant at Ole Miss is far more appealing than being a head coach here! He helped bring the Riders another cup, but not even two years ago he was fired by the Argos. Tillman gave him this job. This job has led to the job he is now taking. The Riders have been very good for him as well! Being a fired offensive coordinator in the CFL doesn't open up many doors. He used this as a quick stepping , so be it. (again he should be thanking Shivers and Barrett)

The Riders were here before Kent and will be long after him. The organization is much bigger than him alone. I hope Mississippi gets from him what they hoped for cause by seasons end there may be some better options available to him! I hope he finally finds what he is looking for and probably has been all along.

Lets get all the compliments and nice words out of the way because it's only b-ll s--t anyway. Eric has now got to focus on moving forward, getting a quality committed coach, and advancing the organization towards dynasty status.

Years from now Kent will be a footnote as a one year wonder. I hold no ill will towards the guy but the sooner he is out of the province, the sooner this distraction can be eliminated. Eric, the next time get a guy who actually wants to be here! You can't build continuity and loyalty with one year coaches. I am sure Danny is starring in bisbelief.

I am sad for the Rider players and fans but happy that Kent has this opportunity.

There was one comment made about RH being the next HC..... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO please no....

He is a great guy, but we need more. Kent IS the reason this team made it over the hump and we need to replace him with someone that can be put in his shoes.

i am devastated. Will the 'riders ever be a team of choice for a player or coach or will continue to be a last resort or stepping stone to something better?

Thanks for one year of good times kent....back to out of the playoffs next year.

Richie Hall's name will not so much garner more than an a 30 second discussion within the Football Ops to say no way. Everyone belly ached about Danny Barrett being too nice a guy, well what do you think Richie Hall is, and why do you think he was demoted from Asst H.C when Kent took over? He'll be passed over again for the 7th time, and the job will go to Mike Gibson. A very dark horse candidate could be Dave Ritchie.

great move for a guy who took the riders to the promised land.

I think I am going to be ill! We knew a great coach like Kent wouldn't be ours forever but I was hoping for a couple more years. Now where do we go from here?

I am getting pissed off about the comments about the reason the Riders won the cup was because Kevin Glenn was injured. Look everyone that mentions that we won the cup for that reason neglects the fact that we were an unhealthy team as well. We had injuries in very key areas but you guys keep making excuses for why we won. I am so sick of excuses for everything we do. Excuses for losing but now we have to deal with excuses for winning. Sickening. We won enjoy it. Kent will be hard to replace but life goes on. I looked outside and the sun came up today as well as it will tomorrow.

The person who signed annonymous with the long comment about how the sooner Kent leaves the better needs to seriously seek in patient mental care. Kent Austin was hired to a job which he did well, and got the result desired. When he was the QB, he was hired to do a job which he did well, and got the result desired. I wasn't aware that Kent was obligated to stay in the same job for the rest of his life, lower his horizons like most of the losers that complain about this team, and then get praised one minute, and insulted the next. The guy changed jobs just like about 5000 people did in other sectors today, and it's his business not yours. Don't worry within a week there will be another guy in Kent's office, and you'll have something else to complain about.

Take Care

Totally agree with Devin. Thank you Kent for 2 Grey Cups. Good luck in your future. And Eric, when you find a replacement, sent the name quickly to Mr. Anonymous so he can start coming up with reasons to despise him.

I'm sorry to see Kent go but really can't blame him. It's absolutely no reflection on our great organization.
A suggestion for head coach, Matt Dunnigan. He got a raw deal in Calgary. I really think he's a lot like Kent in that he always finds a way to win.

Anonymous said...

Devin - your clearly an idiot..if you think giving up a head coach post to be somebody's # 2 is advancement. They probably thought it was some type of high school down there...Kent is leaving probably because of home and family. Good on him. I agree with anonymous that lets get over Kent and get on with finding a replacement...this has been a distraction for the last couple of weeks...along with a PR problem for the team. We will find a coach who will be every bit as good...Lets not forget Kent's coaching record life time is (12-6) regular season. Hardly Wally Buono type numbers....Kent is merely a part of our past but not our future. Don't make this guy into some saint.

Anonymous said...

Phil,

Do you mean Matt Dunigan with the scrambled brains, and the disaster he put together in Calgary? The next Head Coach will be from on staff, and 99% most likely the Asst H.C Mike Gibson. This is a situation where if it isn't broke don't fix it. Continuity is the key for 2008. The real story will be what Richie Hall will do when he's passed over yet again which I've lost count of how many times already.

Regards
Devin

Obviously, Mr, Anonymous doesn't know whether he's coming or going. First he says he could care less then he says he couldn't care less. You can't have it both ways dude. Better figure out your views before sending in any more comments.

The people who complain about this are the ones that are PART TIME rider fans, and can say what they want. Kent has been an inspiration to a province that wasn't sure when they would see the CUP again. I think ANYONE would take this oppurtunity if it presented its self. And remeber the football club gave him permission to go. Mr, Anonymous can say what he wants but for all I care we don't need fans like that. Kent has done so much for this CITY, Province, and RIDER NATION that NO one should call him down or put down what he has decided on.

Just remember everyone, WE ARE GREY CUP CHAMPS!!!!! and You can never ever take that away from anyone.
